Burbong Angus

Burbong Angus had 18 rising two-year-old Angus bulls on display ahead of their Landmark, Helmsman Auction on August 26.

Stud principal, Ian Darmody said the bulls were heavy boned and athletic, bred from their own cows and all APR bulls.

Mr Darmody said the bulls have impressive growth rates, weighing between 800 to 900 kilograms.

"The steers we sold this year weighed an average of 426kg at 11 to 12-months-old and the heifers weighed 400kg at the same age," Mr Darmody said.

Mr Darmody said the bulls are bred out of a cold climate, at Jerangle before being brought to Bungendore to grow out.

Burbong Angus will hold a private open day ahead of their sale on August 22.

Hillview Angus

Hillview Angus had a great 2019 Ausmectin Southern Beef Week, selling 10 bulls before midday on their open day.

Stud principal Danny Hill said buyers were repeat clients from local areas, including Bungendore, Braidwood and Gundaroo.

"From 9am we had people waiting on the gate, a repeat buyer bought five bulls, another bought two, they've just kept walking in," Mr Hill said.

Mr Hill said he thinks the 2019 bull draft was their best and most even line yet.

"Temperate wise, every bull lays down and chews their cud when anyone walks through them and they also look good after a tough year," Mr Hill said.

He said they mainly bred for commercial buyers who are turning off vealers or steers.

Claystone Poll Hereford and Angus

Claystone Poll Hereford and Angus had a selection of their rising two-year-old bulls on display, which sold to repeat, local buyers.

Stud co-principal Christian Allen said they were in the process of building up their genetics.

"Next year we'll have a good selection of bulls we'll take down to Wondonga and Dubbo," Mr Allen said.

"We've got a lot of ET calves and some good bull calves coming out of the dam of the $95,000 bull from Wodonga (Hereford National 2016), Minlacowie Nikkie."

He said they had also recently purchased the Bahloo Poll Hereford herd.

Southern Black Simmentals

Southern Black Simmentals had a selection of two-year-old and yearling bulls, a stud sire, cows and heifers on display at their Nerriga property for the final day of Ausmectin Southern Beef Week.

Stud principal, Simon Hale said they had visitors from Braidwood and the Southern Highlands throughout the day and had sold bulls to a buyer from Bega.

Mr Hale said they aimed to breed commercial bulls with good top lines, that will suit different maturity patterns and perform in any conditions.

In 2017 the stud purchased the Buckingham herd and Mr Hale said sire, Buckingham Black Horatio had performed particularly well for them.
