Two studs shared the spoils in the Sydney Royal Show Suffolk ring on Saturday afternoon, with Bowen Suffolk Stud's ram claiming the tri-colour ribbon, and Belvedere Park taking out the contest for grand champion ewe.
Bowen stud principal Greg Good also claimed reserve ewe and the Peter Taylor Group trophy, as as well as the breeder's group award and The Suffolk Sheep Society of NSW trophy for top sire's progeny group, consisting of three exhibits.
Mr Good said he was pleased with how his animals paraded on the day, but their real strengths were in their carcase quality traits.
"Not only did they show well, but they've also got the data to back them up," he said.
"All of these animals are pretty high up for IMF and shearforce, and that's a trait which I'm really focussing on at the moment."
The 10-month-old champion ram, which exhibited a shearforce and IMF values of of 0.24 and -0.27, will be amongst the draft on offer at the Bowen on-property sale in September.
Brendan Mitchell, Belvedere Park, had a great day out with his Suffolks at their first Sydney Royal since he begun breeding two years ago.
"It's my first time coming to a big show like this and I'm very happy with the results," he said.
"The champion was a very nice little ewe and we'll be keeping her for life.
"She's got got nice black tips, long through barrel and excellent through the loin.
"I love her mother, she was a champion ewe as well and had won many ribbons at Bathurst and other shows around our area."
